What to Expect

All people and problems are unique. Keeping this front of mind, Compassionate Mind Psychology does not use a ‘one size fits all’ approach to therapy. Each course of treatment is individualised based on your personal needs and specific goals. This means we use an integrative approach to treatment that is grounded in a firm foundation of evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), trauma informed therapies and mindfulness based therapies (please see full list of therapies on the services page).

With warmth, authenticity and compassion, we work collaboratively with you to gain a comprehensive understanding of the nature of your concerns. This then aids us to determine the best therapeutic approach for your needs, and establish goals that are most important to you. We will then help you learn new skills and practical strategies, along with the abilities to develop insight, which will enhance your mental wellbeing.

Our aim is to support you to gain greater self-insight and personal growth, and instil in you the skills and confidence to manage your concerns. It is important to us that you feel safe, understood and empowered throughout the therapy process.

Our aim is to support you to gain greater self-insight and personal growth, whilst instilling in you the skills and confidence to manage your concerns.

When you contact us

It can feel pretty daunting seeking help from a psychologist for the first time, and taking that first step takes courage. To help you feel more at ease, we offer an introductory phone consultation to answer any concerns or questions you have before you book your first session.

Preparing for your first session

Prior to the first session, we will ask you to complete some brief forms to ensure the session stays focused on what is most important to you.

The first session typically involves a detailed assessment of your current life situation, relevant history, your difficulties, and any contributing factors.

In the initial sessions, we will take the time to get to know your reasons for seeking support, and work collaboratively with you to develop your therapy goals. You will continue to work towards these goals during and between your subsequent sessions.

Length of therapy

Sessions typically run for 50 minutes. The number of sessions required can vary, depending on the complexity of the issues being addressed, however this will be discussed with you within your initial session.

Availability

Appointments are held via Telehealth due to the current COVID-19 restrictions. Appointments are available during business and after hours.
